Area homeowners know just how unpredictable our weather can be. The old saying "if you don't like the weather, just stick around for a day..." is a perfect description of Southern Missouri! It doesn't take much severe weather to damage a roof, especially if your roof is older, has poor quality materials, or was installed incorrectly. A little high wind or hail can cause significant damage. And that damage isn't always visible. Sometimes, it can take months for a leak to appear inside. If you suspect that your roof may have storm damage, call Donahue Roofing to have us evaluate it for you.
Determine your coverage
If we determine that your roof has obvious storm damage, your next step will be to consult your homeowner's insurance policy or call your insurance provider to find out what is covered. Repair or replacement of your roof due to hail, wind, and storm damage are covered by most homeowners policies, but coverage varies from full replacement at today's cost to depreciation due to age. Replacement or repair will be based on the amount of damage.
Determine the damage
Your provider may elect to have a claims adjuster do a roof inspection. They will examine your roof and determine if there is enough damage to open a claim.
Get an estimate for the repair or new roof
The next step is to call your roofing contractor and have them give you an estimate. It is always a good idea to get more than one estimate. Let your contractor know what you learned from your insurance adjuster. Submit the bid to your insurance company and let them know you have chosen a roofing contractor you trust. In most cases, your only out of pocket expense should be your deductible.
