Insurance Claims

Area homeowners know just how unpredictable our weather can be. The old saying "if you don't like the weather, just stick around for a day..." is a perfect description of Southern Missouri! It doesn't take much severe weather to damage a roof, especially if your roof is older, has poor quality materials, or was installed incorrectly. A little high wind or hail can cause significant damage. And that damage isn't always visible. Sometimes, it can take months for a leak to appear inside. If you suspect that your roof may have storm damage, call Donahue Roofing to have us evaluate it for you.

Determine your coverage

If we determine that your roof has obvious storm damage, your next step will be to consult your homeowner's insurance policy or call your insurance provider to find out what is covered. Repair or replacement of your roof due to hail, wind, and storm damage are covered by most homeowners policies, but coverage varies from full replacement at today's cost to depreciation due to age. Replacement or repair will be based on the amount of damage.

Determine the damage

Your provider may elect to have a claims adjuster do a roof inspection. They will examine your roof and determine if there is enough damage to open a claim.

Get an estimate for the repair or new roof

The next step is to call your roofing contractor and have them give you an estimate. It is always a good idea to get more than one estimate. Let your contractor know what you learned from your insurance adjuster. Submit the bid to your insurance company and let them know you have chosen a roofing contractor you trust. In most cases, your only out of pocket expense should be your deductible.

Select a roofing company

If you select Donahue Roofing, we will schedule your job as quickly as possible, coordinating with your schedule as-needed. We will walk you through the process, help you choose new shingles or metal for your roof, and complete your job quickly and professionally.

Storm Damage

It doesn't take much severe weather to damage a roof, especially if your roof is older, has poor quality materials, or was installed incorrectly. High wind or hail can cause significant damage in very little time, and that damage isn't always obvious. We get a lot of calls from people who are concerned because they notice that their neighbors are getting new roofs, which makes them wonder if theirs are damaged tool. Often, they are! If you suspect that your roof may have storm damage, take a look at some of the tips below for identifying it, and call Donahue Roofing to have us evaluate it for you.

Storm Damaging Events

  • High Winds Every thunderstorm is capable of producing straight line winds in short bursts, and that can damage a roof very quickly
  • Hail It may seem obvious, but even small hail can damage weak or older roofs and gutters
  • Tornadoes Also obvious, but remember, when a tornado passes through your area, it brings with it a lot of debris that can quickly cause significant damage, even if the tornado itself passes you by
  • Trees An overhanging tree that drops limbs or large walnuts on your roof can easily damage it, especially during a storm
  • Debris High winds can easily carry debris that can cause significant roof damage

How to Spot Storm Damage
